Buying a new car. Need opinions on which one is the best.

I don't agree that that's an issue.  There was a time when that was the norm.  The Ford Escort sedan and hatchbacks (4/5-door) in the 1980's looked essentially the same.  Though, they looked slightly more sedan-like than they did hatchback like.  Cut to today, and I think the European influence is clear.  Hatchbacks are the overwhelming majority of cars on the streets there.  With hatchbacks being significantly more popular than sedans, it would seem reasonable to expect the design of a current vehicle to reflect that.

I'm not exactly sure what the draw would be to a sedan on such a small car, as hatchbacks are much more practical.   

I have the estate/wagon version of the Focus and it's hard for me to understand why Ford dropped the wagon/estate in the US, simply because they're such a practical vehicle.

Between the leaky mid 90s hatchback, and the tendency to have your back window smashed if you keep anything back there, I'm not a big fan of hatchbacks ... Plus they're ugly as sin.

For some people they're perfectly practical, but most people rarely use the space and there are some downsides.
