They made two, first was the Game Gear, second Nomad. Which is why I related the PS Vita to the Nomad ( bithbeing the second hand console from both companies and promising similar things).

So actually PSV is already the most successful non-Nintendo 2nd gen handheld ever? And that's with less than a full year on the market. Well done Sony!
