When you start to add in the consequences of Sony spending less R&D money on the Cell processor (because it would be too expensive of a CPU to use in a conventional console) you start to realize that Microsoft couldn't have produced the Xenon CPU without piggybacking on Sony's R&D and therefore even the XBox 360 wouldn't be equal to what it is today.
Certainly, I was being dramatic when I compared it to the Wii, but (realistically) a $400 system that includes the PS-Eye and move would (probably) have been a dual core PowerPC processor running at 2.5GHz, 256MB of memory, a GPU based on the Geforce 6600, and a DVD drive. If Sony wanted to keep the Blu-Ray drive the processing power and memory would have needed to be further scaled back.
