EA is behind a number of great games and it would be foolish for them to stop making sports games on yearly basis when a bunch of people like to consume that product on yearly basis. That essentially funds their development of other riskier games. You would be getting news reports about EA studios shutting down at the rate of THQ if it wasn't for the sports titles in EA keeping their lights on when one of their more riskier things fails.
