We're still about 2 years away from the ps4. How many people were ready to buy a 1080p tv in 2004, 2 years before the ps3 release? HD ready and 720p were the standard back then. In another 6-8 years 4K tv's could very well be affordable.
It's not pointless, the ps4 will still be available to buy in 10 years time. Why not future proof it.
