I don't know what this 4K thing is. Seriously.

seriously, I don't.

Quick answer... 1080p means 1K. 4K resolution means 4320p. As simple as that.

Actually 4K is

3840x2160 or 4096 × 1714 (for movies)

I see another 5 years of HD ready style confusion coming with this ambiguous 4K usage.
I recently put it all together

1080p = 1920x1080
2160p = 3840x2160 QFHD (quad full high definition) or UHDTV1
4320p = 7680x4320 8K UHDTV or UHDTV2 (ultra high definition TV)

2K = 2048x1080 used in your local digital cinema
4K = 4096x2160 for consumer electronics
Digital cinema 4K = 4096x1714 (2.39:1) or 3996x2160 (1.85:1)
Academy 4K = 3656x2664 (1.37:1)
Full aperture 4K = 4096x3112 (1.32:1)
8K = 7680x4320 aka super hi-vision

No clue what actual resolution ps4's 4K will be. so called 4K tv's are actually 3840x2160, but sony's 4K projector is 4096x2160
