Sony will just make the ps4 like the ps3. The ps3 can be hooked up to an old picture tube or (SPOILER ALERT FOR PS4) or if you buy a 1080 tv you can hook up and HDMI cord to it. Remember ps3 came out the same way the plasma tv's and lcd's were sky high in price. This is the same idea for ps4 if it 4k resolution which is the future in tvs by the way. They will simply put in 1080 standard on PS4 and (SPOILER ALERT FOR PS4) if you by a 4k resolution tv then im sure there will be a cable and a port for the new tv's. Also japan has new tvs out already that are super HD tv's which is twice the resolution of 1080. Sony makes products to go with japanese tech. These tvs will not be in the us for another year or 2 just in time for PS4. All I have seen are LED tvs and they are 1080, 3d or blue ray or blueray 3d tv's. These super HD tvs will be awesome and everyone will want one its the ameican way.
