Another thing. Circumcision in the US is probably far more embedded in religion than anything else.
A traditionally deep religious country like the USA would take a lot of biblical teachings to heart.
Many founding fathers considered themselves the chosen people (the new jews) and circumcision was a sign between God and his people.... or something of the sort.
I read that in an American history book ages ago.
