I wouldn't put this down as a huge loss at all. Losing Naughty Dog or Santa Monica would be huge. Unfortunetly Studio Liverpool, considering their size, have produced very little this generation. I just wish they'd made another destruction derby, those games were amazing.

I'm all for Sony closing studios when they stop producing the goods, begin to stagnate or grow too large and unweildy. At this moment in time Sony could do with trimming some of the fat in SCEWS.

Next on the chopping block would probably be parts of the japan studio or the cambridge or london studios. I think the Japan studio works on a lot of the updates on the firmware side of things though, so perhaps despite their size and lack of releases, they are still very productive.

Reflections (a.k.a. Ubisoft Reflections) made Destruction Derby.  Sony owns the IP (since the game was published by Psygnosis who were wholly owned by Sony at the time).  So a new Destruction Derby could well be made, but not by Studio Liverpool.

I'd say Cambridge Studio would be the next to go.  In fact, I'm surprised it wasn't them instead of Studio Liverpool.  They've both had equally poor outputs this generation but Psygnosis had the heritage and the more established IP (WipEout).

I'd say that they'll probably be shut after Killzone Mercenary but we'll see.
