Since the release of Diablo III last May, I must have put about 100 hours into the game but for the last month and a half I didn't touch it.
My interest dwindled when my main character (a Monk) reached Act II in the Inferno difficulty, after getting destroyed by every champion or unique pack I encountered a few times, paying a fortune to repair my gear, I found myself contained to Act I - Inferno farming for better gear and gold. Well that got old quick since I felt like I wasn't progressing anymore. If the XFire stats are to be believed, I wasn't the only one in this situation [Link]
So I was about to call it quits and sell my 1250 DPS Daibo on the real-money auction house, after all getting 100 hours out of a game isn't that bad, but I was still sad DIII didn't hold me for as long as DII did. Then, yesterday, one my co-workers mentioned that there was a new patch rolling in and it seems Blizzard has been listening to complains. The biggest change of this new patch: 100 new Paragon levels once you reach Level 60 that will boost your stats and magic find.
Now even though I'm still currently not strong enough to get out of Act I, at least I've regained my sense of progression that was cruely missing from the end-game up until now and my interest has been sparked again.
What remains to be seen is if I'm the exception or the rule. Will players come back to the game or have they moved on the other things for good?
