I actually have my PS3 start-up on a separate account than the one I earn my trophies on. That saved me because one day a friend came over with a bunch of games and just started playing them on my console without my knowledge (actually I was asleep haha) - of course I was relieved that the games' trophies loaded onto that other account, otherwise I would have to try and plat them...
Also, I don't have the same faith as you do about being able to delete the 0% lists... Wrote to Sony before about it. But I think they do track all the details regarding trophies as a kind of statistics, so they don't want users to have any means of modifying their lists.
