Consoles are basically custom PCs at this point anyway. Difference is we can enjoy many of the same games PC gamers do, but without things like compatibility issues,

Hard drive/lack of hard drive? Firmware updates and bugs? Region locking? I'm sure there have been console compatibility issues.

DRM,

Wii,360 and PS3 have some of the worst DRM invented, and you don't have root access to the box. Steam is more permissive and a lot of the smaller budget PC titles are DRM free. 3DS no one has even been able to extract the music files so we will never hear the soundtrack without game sound on top.

constantly upgrading hardware and software to run the latest games, etc

Firmware updates, buying WiiMotion+, Kinect, EyeToy, link cables

. And we get this all for around $300.
