You are correct.  I remember reading that, at the time, it held the record for the most money spent on entertainment in a single day, ever.

Yup.  In America, the Dreamcast did almost $98m in its first 24 hrs - well over 3x as much as the previous record holder, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

It was a very impressive feat... until the PS2 came along a year later and squashed the record again with $250m.
