What's he gonna say? "OMGZ WE'S DOOMED!!!!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!!!"

LOL.  Exactly.  I'm not even sure the sales numbers are all that horrible, either.  I mean, at the very least, Sony already has 2 million hardcore ardent Vita owners that represent males age 18-34 who are prone to spending lots of money on games and accessories.  It's also the same demographic that were the first to adopt high-end smartphones.  So, I agree with Jack, I don't see any cause for concern.  The more games they release, the more sales will pick up, and it will inevitably become a very profitable machine for them.  No doubt in my mind at all.

I'll cut the crap and just ask you, how could the sales be any worse?

2.5 million since release is abysmal, it's not bad or poor or awful or laclustre. It's straight up terrible.

We're talking Dreamcast level here.

Yeah, but your comparion is deeply flawed.  Your comparing Sony's 2nd gen handheld to Sega's 5th gen console.  Sega was dead in the water with hardware after 1995 because of the back-to-back failure of Sega CD and the Saturn.  Dreamcast was failed from the start.

The situation is completely different with Sony.  A giant corporation who makes money from a lot more areas than just game software and hardware sales.  They have billions of dollars to burn in R&D and hardware losses in order to build a large install base and make a profit from selling large amounts of $40-60 software, not to mention outrageously over-priced accessories like flash memory cards and screen protectors.  I think Sony is fine, honestly.  The early Vita adopters are the ones who buy dozens of pieces of software, and all the expensive flashy toys to go with it like a charging stand or stereo speakers.

Also you should consider the timing of the launch.  Spring and Summer are traditionally very soft, weak periods for hardware and software except for big blockbusters with a million pre-orders that will sell at any time.  At least give Vita the benefit of the doubt and see how it sells from October-December.  That'll be the real test.  I think it's way too early to call it a failure, especially given how quickly people called for the death of the 3DS before the price drop, and now it's out-selling the original DS of all things.
