Cold water or ice is the only thing that really helps. You just have to live through it. I used to work at a glass shop and we used hot butyl (400 degree F) to seal insulated glass units. It came out of a gun type thing and if you didn't move fast enough it would run over. Natural reaction is to wipe it off so I did a number of times. So first you get butyl (400 degree F) on one hand and your second reaction is wipe it off a second time but this time from your hand. So now you have butyl (400 degree F) on both hands and you just have to sit there and let it cool off. When it's cool you peel it off skin and all.
It's not like I'm the only one that did it. Everyone in the shop had done it a few times. You still feel stupid and have to work with burning hands. It gets better after the first day and by day 3 it's a lot better.
