That scenario almost sounds unrealistic to me. However, your shocked condition may have caused you to believe that by giving him control of the situation he would let you go since he no longer would be threatened.
And like I said earlier, just because you expected or hoped for profit doesn't mean you will receive it. In fact, in other scenarios the exitement (when betting or playing bingo) may also be the profit. You don't have to win in order to gain mental profit.
