According to Apple, there are currently more than 130 million Game Center accounts, which means iOS devices are already more popular than home consoles like the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, and the Nintendo Wii. In fact, it’s currently the world’s third-largest gaming platform.

But Asymco expects Game Center to surpass 200 million users by the end of 2012, putting Apple’s platform way out in front, ahead of the Nintendo DS — the best-selling console to date. “No gaming device has ever reached the 200 million mark,” Asymco says.

If you look at OpenFeint figures, a third-party gaming platform on iOS, there are already more than 180 million people gaming on iOS devices.

Of course, it wouldn’t be accurate to look at sales figures alone, because not everyone who purchases an iOS device uses it for gaming. So Game Center and OpenFeint accounts are the most accurate way of determining the figures. Even then, you need to bear in mind that some users could have more than just one Game Center or OpenFeint account.

Sure this is pure bs as we all know Call of Duty Mw3 or Black Ops or Black Ops 2 Alone makes more money than the entire app store has done to date since it was launched. Just one Game from that Saga.

Sure it has alot of players, even i played on Iphone and Ipad once and never touched it again such a horrible Experience with GTA 3.

Iphone sells because it is a phone not because it plays games i think Apple doesnt get it haha if it only played games it would be dead against 3DS and Vita wich are far far far far superior to the bs that Iphone is for gaming.

iOS and Android soon will overtake homeconsoles
Especially Android will have a big part cause it is in absolutely everything...TVs,Ouya(has a lot of support),Consoles(probably teamed up with Sony),Windows and even your fridge.

The game that made the most money in terms of work and time they did invest for EPIC isn't a game from the Gears of War Franchise.
It is an iOS Game - Infinity Blade.
A lot of Developers see the potential of those devices and they make a LOT money with them without putting a lot of effort in it.
Those devices get stronger and stronger too at the same time and will soon catch up to consoles, even the Next Gen consoles cause Smartphones,Tablets and everything get a yearly update.
Streaming will be a big part in the future and soon you can play your games on the way too.

Casual gaming, not serious gaming.

Profits probably none, Revenue all together not even close to Halo 4 or Black Ops 2 this year.

Mobile gaming isnt a threat, in fact its a joke and developers wont really care about it once Vita starts getting good sales like 3DS.

Halo and CoD have nothing to do with Serious Gaming.
Those are aimed at casuals more than games like Chaos Rings 1+2(iOS RPGs) - Halo and CoD are the Justin Bieber of Gaming.
Making a lot of money from little kids - And this is a fact. Those are twitch and casual shooters that did hurt SERIOUS gaming a lot in this Gen.
And if games like those are called now serious gaming by kids that grow up with that garbage then Angry Birds and stuff will count as that soon too.

A Shooter that has a place in Serious Gaming?Battlefield 3 on PC.Next Gen graphics, perfect and deep gameplay and a mature community. You have to learn the game.
CoD is the complete opposite - Jumping in,being the king after 20 mins playing and threaten other people over Mic....A casual twitch shooter. No arguing about that. There is nothing serious about this Franchise. Its aimed at the kids that want to be cool at school.
