but no one should start to compare slr sales with iphone camera usage just because iphone camera is used 10x more than all slrs on the market. and i even think no one should compare the nintendo ds with a wii so why compare all these wii and ds with iphone? i don't understand the comparison. no one would come to the idea to compare ferrari with vw or toyota sales if the cars are just another world. |
but that's exactly what dedicated consoles are in relation to smartphone gaming. god, i still remember all the haters saying digital point and shoot couldn't possibly do well compared to film camera's because the quality was sooo bad. where are film camera's now? i remember the haters said camera phones couldn't possibly displace digital point and shoot cameras because the quality was sooo bad. what direction is that market going? how about the fall of garmin GPSs? how about CD players or even dedicated mp3 players?
the common thread in all of this is smartphones came in, took a market majority, and the other businesses became niche, enthusist markets only.
the app store was first launched in 2008. in 4 very short years apple went from non-existant in gaming to attracting sigificant interest from all the majory gaming companies. you're blind if you can't see what's coming.
seriously, iphone sold a "disappointing" 26M units last quarter. if you took ps3, wii, and 360 sales for the year you are only on par as iphone's bad quater. if only 25% of iphone users play games that still means there are as many iphone gamers as there are dedicated console gamers. and even that that ignores two major elephants: android, ipad.
