Not really. If the United States today is the Soviet Union of the 80's, we are... someone that isn't really going to become relevant anytime soon. Too much corruption on politics  and an alienated people. Brazilians don't like being dumped alongside the remainder of the continent as "Latin America" but we are politically as stupid as Argentina or Venezuela.
