It's clear that the genre has hit saturation, like other fad genres before it (platformers, 2D Fighters, sandbox games), but that just means that developers will stop trying so hard to FPS-up everything, until we've identified the next fad (my money's on WRPGs)

How can you call a many year long trend a fad? By definition, a fad is something that is short lived. This trend has lasted years and is not over. It is just not expanding any more.

Also, now that you are a mod along and Kasz is a mod, I am never posting in Nintendo threads or political threads again.

genres survive outside their fads, just as things that were fads live long after the "fad" is gone. Pokemon was a fad, but Pokemon is still here and quite strong. There was a point when Mario was a pop-culture fad (with the Super Show among other things), which is now past, but Mario endures. Skateboarding was a fad around the turn of the millennium, but that wasn't the beginning nor the end of skateboarding. Mascot platformers are still around, 2D fighters, sandbox games, and all have games that do good to great, and so will FPS (which has existed long before it started getting fad heat after Halo 2, and will continue to endure after the heat is lost, which is happening now), but there aren't hordes of developers falling all over themselves to make FPSes anymore, until they find the next fad.

And we're largely in agreement on politics, are we not? Despite some of his views on Keynesian economics and environmental issues, Kasz is basically a Social Democrat, and i very much am a Green, which is about where i thought you were.
