US$ 24 billion dollar loss ? is that right ?

I'm pretty sure the $45m loss was caused by PSV sales.

I find hard to believe that PS3 is still being sold at loss.

Where does it say that

He is assuming the total loss is $24b US dollars, so he probably thinks PS3 is still being sold at a big time loss.

Misleading titles can have that effect.

The person who wrote the title of this article changed it

It was US$24billion before.

I was just asking if the title was right.

I was asking where the "PS3 still being sold at loss" came from, as that can't be concluded simply from the $45 million Game division loss (which is mostly likely caused by Vita being sold at a loss)

Understood now.

But I said, i don't believe PS3 was the cause of this loss.

And I agree with you.

This $45m has to be caused by PSV poor sales.

No way the PS3 is still being sold at loss.

I think you read the statement wrong. It's not selling for a loss, in fact I don't think any of their hardware is. HW sales are down YoY even though PS3 (and apparently PS2) is selling well compared to the competition. Sony's game division has expenses and they hope to make more revenue from HW and SW sales to turn a profit. They make projections for sales and they budget out expenses. While I find evidence that Vita is selling at a profit, it has not been selling very well and its introduction has also stalled PSP sales (essentially PSP + Vita are selling around what PSP was). These lack of sales cut into the revenue for the division and they were unable to make up their expenses.

Back in 2006/7 most Sony execs (and fans) would've killed for 'only' a $45 million loss on a new playstation hardware launch
