Every game needs to be patched, no game is ever without bugs.  He's arguing to make it easier to patch.  Such an idea would be an act of progress, not laziness.  The argument is saying, "We need a patch, let us fix it", within the context of a system that charges 10s of thousands of dollars in order to do so (see recent Fez situation).

Nice Fox News argument, though.

While systems to enable patching should not be prohibitive, at the same time there should be front-end mechanisms to try as hard as possible to make sure that it doesn't need patched right out of the gate. There needs to be incentive to keep developers on their toes.
