I don't mind games where you have to work for what you have, but that was just a miserable experience. I'm sure if I really worked at it, I could have a better experience but the game needs to give me a reason to first.  Start me near something, don't make me run for 15 minutes before I see anything at all of interest.

Yeah sometimes your starting position can be a pain in the arse. I started on top of a mountain today, which meant I could see a few towns and a lighthouse so I knew where to go and I could make informed choices which meant I could give myself an objective. This kind of start is great. It's a lot more enjoyable than just running around for 10 minutes trying to find something to do or somewhere to go.

Playing with other people makes it a lot better, you should play with the vgcharterz.

Oh yeah and you should use the DayZ commander. Makes everything so easy, it'll install, upate and sort out the mod files for you by just clicking the update button. It also lists all the servers so you don't even need to go through ARMA II's menus to get into a game. Took me about a minute to get into one this morning :)
