I'd like to see the initial experience get better.

I don't mind hard games and I don't mind games that let you figure things out on your own. For instance, I love Demon's and Dark Souls. DayZ though, I hated and that's mainly because I only played it for 15-20 minutes and it was a miserable experience.

Ignoring things like taking forever to install, five minutes for the server to create a character for some reason, and me fumbling with the controls, this was my experience--
1. Joined a server with about 90 people.
2. Got into the world and there was nothing around me really. I road in front of me, coast to my back.
3. Ran to the road, didn't see anything either direction so I just just chose a direction.
4. Ran (not walked) for 10-15 minutes and saw nothing
5. Finally saw a cow...couldn't interact with it in any way at all.
6. Ran for another minute or two and finally saw a few buildings up head.
7. Saw a figure near a building which was just standing there, wasn't sure if it was a zombie or a player.
8. It eventually darted away so I assumed it was another player but then it did a 90 degree turn and bolted towards me so then I assumed it really was a zombie.
9. I figured since I had nothing at that point and couldn't even figure out how to equip and turn on my flashlight, I'd see how the zombies behaved so I stood there and let the zombie come at me.
10. Zombie ran by me, ran around me, and then finally started dancing at me which I can only assume is its attack.
11. I stood there for a good 20-30 seconds with the zombie dancing at me and still didn't die so I decided to run back to the cow and see what the zombie does.
12. Ran around the cow and then away to see if the zombie attacked it...nope.
13. Played ring-around-the-rosy with the cow seeing if the zombie would notice it...nope.
14. Finally just stopped and let the zombie kill me. It took another 2-3 minutes of the zombie dancing at me. I can only assume my character finally died of boredom.

I don't mind games where you have to work for what you have, but that was just a miserable experience. I'm sure if I really worked at it, I could have a better experience but the game needs to give me a reason to first.  Start me near something, don't make me run for 15 minutes before I see anything at all of interest.
