You can beat rigging pretty easy with understanding of how the claw works (the drop and grab mechanic) and position of the target. In the last 2 years I have won 3 balls this size 
and two others around 1.5 feet in diameter all on first tries. Though one of the big balls did get lost on the flight home, 3 weeks later they found it and it was shipped to my house.
