Beat the game a couple days ago.

Wasn't hard enough, I stopped all sides quests except a few 'kill 5 enemy' types that only gave cash anyway, only completed them if the monsters were in my way between me and the objective marker.

I was using Sharla and Reyn up until you get Riki then swapped to Dunban and Riki, then ditched Riki once Fiora returns as party member, then used her and Dunban for rest of the game, between them both dodging very well, being set for damage more than anything with only a couple aura dodge bonus or heals (with aura-heal gem bonus) and Shulks crappy heal I walked over pretty much every enemy for the entire game.  Sharla seems pretty pointless with all those healing skills and debuff removals, didn't need any of them.

The only boss that gave me any trouble was the Dragon right near the end.  Mainly because it was a few levels higher than my party and hitting it was causing serious damage to all my party members thanks to its aura, it would resist the Monando aura-remover 75% of the time and I nneded hit it several times to refill monando guage and try again.   But I killed it 4th try and didn't grind or anything to make the fight easier and stuck with the same party rather than switch in perhaps more appropiate party members (because 2 characters with super fast auto attacks probaby wasn't the best idea for a damage aura like that).  All other bosses killed first go except the boss inside the heart, died once because failed to noticed 4 more elemental things spawned right behind party leader.

Anyway, no challenge to the game and I had to actively avoid doing sidequests and griding just to get the little challenge I did.  Bad design there.

I occasionally swap about party leaders but until you reach a point where Monando enchant is no longer needed to damage mechon - pretty sure this is never explained btw, I just suddenly didn't need it anymore, I was pretty much forced to play as Shulk because his AI is just so crap and he never uses correct powers when needed.  Another bad design element at work there.  Shulk has his own sets of arts, that is enough for him, for the Monado powers should of gave everyone access to a menu with them since storywise Shulk is there even if not active member of the party.

I liked all the characters except Melia, she just seems crap in every way, I expected to dislike Riki but I found him funny.  Music had some good tracks, some boring ones too, story was good too, plus is a very long game just sticking to main quest.

Don't like the endgame content that is offered, farming for items isn't fun, nor is hunting pick-ups, getting top affinity between party members is another grind.  Lot of the achievements are grinds.  Oh, the game suffers some awful slowdown at times, the final boss was especially awful as was the fight inside the Bionis heart

Overall still a very enjoyable game, worth the money paid.  Will I ever play through it again?  Probably not, but I'd rate it as one of my most enjoyed JRPGs, they all just lack replay value.

Finally someone else mentions the Dragon.

The enemies with Spike were all major dicks (you across the pond might know them as wankers), no matter what precautions you took to deal with them

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
