Hmm, good point. so what do you think it is that brought about that change??.

Apple realized that trying to compete with PC/Windows was hard as hell since once people are set in their ways it's hard to make them change their minds. Sure they could grab small parts of market shares from the PC but they could never overthrow Windows' dominance. So they opted to focus on new markets and with the iPod they succeeded in making it the MP3 player to rule them all and now pretty much in the same way that most people won't leave Windows because that's what they know, people keep buying iPods because that's what they know. Then of course they kept creating new markets with the iPhone and iPad.
