I think the Wii U controller and Kinect will have the same price tag more or less. And a regular controller is $30, so that won't make a difference.

The lack of HDD could make a difference on a system's performance, so I don't consider that an "extra". Just like additional 4 GB RAM are not an extra, more a part of the system itself.
