3D has been around for years on the PC, I had wired shuttered glasses hooked up to a CRT playing Quake 2. PC 3d setups are still popular. You guys saying it gives you a head ache, does looking around with 2 eyes open give you headache? No? Then there must be a reason why it hurts, right? Here's a few possible reasons :
1. the source, or what you are watching, has the paralax messed up, which strains your eyes. If the objects in the background are too far apart in the left and right views, your eyes have to do a 'reverse crosseye' to try to line them up, which would never happen in the real world and hurts. Or they have the two cameras too far apart, which esagerates the 3d effect. Or they allow objects too close to the cameras, which makes you suddenly go crosseyed. I've noticed this in certain Imax movies, they probably didn't adjust the parralax correctly, or did it on purpose to exagerate the 3d effect. This is the number one problem in my opinion, some scenes strain my eyes, and I can see why. We need better consistancy in the camera adjustments when recording 3d movies!
2. The glasses- my 1st. generation panasonic 3d glasses sucked big time! They were heavy, they hurt my nose, they were so bad I had to attach them to a baseball cap to keep thier enormass wieght off my nose. Some people never wear glasses, and so will be annoyed wearing ANY glasses. I now have third generation glasses that are incredible, very light and comfortable. This should have been a priority from the begining. 3D without the glasses is a long way off. The parralax barrier screens have a sweet spot for a single viewer, lower the resolution, and look crappy with 2d media. they are good for a PC setup for a single player, so we are stuck with some kind of glasses until they come up with a hologram setup, which will be ????
3. Some people who say they don't see a difference, either your not close enough to the screen ( I like to sit about 4 feet away from my 50" plasma, the closer the better), or your one of the 10% or so who don't see 3d anyway. Close one eye for ten seconds while looking around the room, then open both eyes and look around. See the difference? If not, to bad, but don't complain here.
I love 3d, i'll be buying the Oculus Rift 3d goggles....http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/06/06/john-carmack-is-making-a-virtual-reality-headset-500-kits-available-soon-video-interview-inside/
