Jeez, what are they trying to do, give the console lead to Sony?

Even if the PS3 passes the 360, the "console lead" belongs to the Wii. Second, we don't know what Microsoft is planning (outside of this bundle).

Regardless, I'm sure neither of them wants the legendary 3rd place.

At this point, I don't think they care that much. I'm sure we forum-goers dwell much more on it than they do.

Exactly.

I don't know if it's amusing or sad that people are still obsessing over this like it still matters.

Realistically, 2010, possibly even 2009 was the last time when marketshare could have made any sort of difference in developer platform choice or making choices for future platform development.

At this point, MS is most likely quite satisfied to keep current profits per unit sold given the current rate of sales. Until they see a significant drop off in sales, there's no reason for any significant price drops given the "cheap" $99 option already available. MS doesn't want to sell consoles at this point; they want XBL subscribers for their online services.

Most neutral people probably recognize that unless one of the three consoles ceases production much earlier than the other two, the final split will probably be something very close to 40/30/30%.

As for SCE future pricing plans, any price cuts will directly correlate to per unit production costs as has always been the case with their consoles. If the redesigned models are being produced for a nickel and a wish (and I must admit they do look pretty cheap), I expect to see retail prices adjusted accordingly.
