If all the Vitas heavy hitters come out including whatever is announced at Gamescom and TGS and sales don't improve then sure it'll be a failure, but to claim its dead or dying as of now is extremely premature. The attach rate for the likes of Uncharted and and P4G and smaller niche titles like Ragnarok Odyssey and Disgaea 3 show that the device can move software despite such a small install base, so I doubt developers will pull out of making games for the thing, which is the only issue owners should be concerned about. I think this week in Media Create a 3DS/PSV multiplat actually sold more on the Vita by 100 units, i'm pretty sure developers take note of these occurrences so I wouldn't worry too greatly about the Vitas immediate future. |
I would argue the high attach rate lies in the fact that people are starved to get something to play on the vita. At least thats the case with me. I have 4 retail games right now and I would only own 2 if I would go by personal appeal only. I wanted my purchase to be justified and bought for example Unit 13 and MGS HD despite the fact that I'm not really into shooters and that I already own Snake Eater 3D. Also about Time Travelers, I can imagine that this game is pretty far down the list of "must have" games for the 3DS when you can buy monster hunter or pokemon instead. On the Vita, the game might be more attractive due to a lesser amount of high quality games.
Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.
