More than that, it doesn't invalidate a 2013 launch. I mean, they say they won't launch first (nor cheapest) but at the same time, won't "let the PS4 come out after the 720". To me, they're saying a lot of things right now, a sort of testing the waters, if you will (like Microsoft, they will be watching that WiiU launch very close), but I think one thing's for sure - they won't let more than 365 days pass between a competitor's release and their own.

If the Wii U flat out bombs and the PS3 still racks in good profit, then I could see them waiting until 2014.

I would be 'very' surprised if the wiiU does anywhere near as good as the Wii did in its first year anyways. I think Sony's biggest issue right now is NA and the xbox. If they launch close to each other Sony will create a hefty lead in EU and Asia easily...and they can try and steal some momentum from the xbox in the NA as well. It's the ideal scenario for them.
