Gaming investors say the iPad will be this generation’s console

I agree that a mobile device is competition for a mobile device like PS Vita or 3DS.

I disagree that a mobile device is competition for home consoles. 

 

What kind of home console user will not buy a home console again, because of the iPad or any other tablet?

- Core gamers? No chance.
- Casual gamers who love their Dance Central / Just Dance / Zumba etc? Nope.
- Casual gamers who love to play their Mario Kart with a couple of friends (offline)? Nope. 4 people gathering, everyone equipped with a tablet to game seems unlikely to me.
- Media nerds? Nope. BluRay / DVD, USB ports, great sound and made for the biggest screen in your house still beats it.

I think that gaming as a whole gets richer with these new devices and that is a good thing. It won't replace or ruin home console gaming though.
