Apparently the root of the dispute here is that Viacom is trying to push an all-or-nothing deal, forcing DirecTV to pay more for the networks with weaker ratings in order to get the bigger boys (Nick, MTV, and Comedy Central) on board. DirecTV is citing falling ratings across the board, while Viacom is trying to get revenue up due to recent stock shortfalls.
