You could just turn the volume down ... that renders pretty much any kind of jump out scare ineffective, and that is all Dead Space is, an uninspired collection of corridors and jump out scares. You could replicate the experience by paying a friend to follow you around all day and, at random intervals, scream "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" as loud as they can in your ear.

A true survival horror game should be able to scare you even with the volume set to mute ... Amnesia for example or Silent Hill are scary without the crutch of jump out scares. It also does not help that Isaac is a walking death machine in a fortified power ranger suit with an absurd number of weapons and powers that let him slaughter rooms full of necromorphs.

That is my mini rant. At least EA seems to be dropping the pretense of Dead Space being a horror game with Dead Space 3 being a balls to the wall action packed thrill ride that you can play in full coop Resident Evil 5 style.

Also, if you see a body in the middle of a corridor that will obviously just spring up and attack you then just shoot it before you walk by it. If you want to save ammo (no need with all the ammo they give you) then just throw something at it with the kinetic thingy.

I don't hate Dead Space btw ... it is a fun action game and a terrible survival horror game ... nothing more and nothing less
