| oniyide said: No they wouldnt at least not for the sole purspose of playing COD, which is my point. Its not about whether they would buy Wii U or not, but if they are buying it for the sole purpose of play ing COD. @2nd paragraph. Fair enough, i think you're wrong. I think what was stated in the OP ( and by many others) about it peaking is far more likely and makse much more sense. IMHO your argument is just coming from a place of Ninty bias. Just saying. No way in hell that the WIi U preorders would match those of the PS360 versions. Even if it started in August that would put it months behind PS360. Unless you believe that that much people will be buying a Wii U at launch and yes at launch because the game will be debutig in the launch window for Wii U. As for your numbers, again I think you're wrong. COD3 on Wii sold 2.15 mil lifetime and that was on a system that was insanely popular. But hell it could be possible. |
As I pointed out, this thread is about the number of preorders right now. So those who wouldn't preorder a game 4 months prior to release aren't really relevant to the discussion.
There's no "Ninty bias" - I'm looking at the situation from the perspective of a person who just wants the best version of the game, for whatever system its on (not that that describes me, but I'm intentionally invoking that perspective). People who might buy a Wii U at or near launch, and who like the CoD games, are fairly likely to want to see what the Wii U version will be like before making a preorder. The result might be that they'd prefer to stick with the system they've already got - I make no judgment on that particular part of the question, because I haven't seen what the game will be like.
I never claimed that Wii U preorders would match those of the "PS360 versions". If you look, all I said was that the difference between preorders at this time last year and current preorders may be due to the possibility of the Wii U version being worth getting. I gave an example of that - in a supposed case in which MW3 got 1 million preorders at this point, and BO2 is currently at 900,000, the extra 100,000 might be waiting to see the Wii U version, first. That's 100,000 vs presumably 450,000 for each of the other two systems. Also, nothing says that a person has to buy it at launch just because that's when it releases (but that's just an aside).
CoD3 sold 2.15 million on Wii, yes... but then, CoD3's best-selling number was 2.59 million on Xbox 360. That was prior to CoD-fever that was sparked by Modern Warfare (you know, the one that the Wii didn't get until two years later, and gimped?). And then the Wii CoD titles were a pale shadow of their 360/PS3 versions in terms of content and graphics (note that I hold no grudge on that point - indeed, I respect Treyarch for doing what they could - they clearly respected the Wii audience in a way that most developers didn't). If you want a reasonable comparison of possible numbers, consider that the Wii version of CoD3 easily outsold the PS3 version (at 1.35 million). So the CoD3 total fanbase was about 6.1 million then... now, MW3 has sold 26.64 million copies (note: I'm not including PC numbers in this). It isn't hard to believe that anywhere between 2 million and 8 million copies could go to a Wii U version - indeed, I'm sure there will be plenty of people like me, who suck at dual analog, and will love the chance for a "HD" CoD played in the Wii style (plus the potential added benefits of the Upad's screen), so it's possible that total Black Ops 2 sales across the three platforms will be bigger, even if the interest of those who were into the PS3/360 ones is starting to wane (note: I'm talking about those who wouldn't buy any version of BO2, not those who would switch to Wii U). We just don't know, yet.
