Firstly, respect to the people who mentioned Lufia 2, FF6 & Suikoden, all amazing choices.

Its not going to be popular but my ultimate RPG was final fantasy XII, Sure it was long, the story was too suble & a lot of the time without the needed exposition a game story is expected to have (read beat you over the head obviousness) but I loved the game 100%, to this day it is my favourite game & the game that elevated the FF series over the Tomb Raider & Soul Reaver Series' as my favourite of all time. I loved everything about it The deep lore of the land, attention to detail in game, inventive races & intriguing characters bought in the best aspects of Jrpgs while the open world, world map & no random battles bought in the best aspects of Wrpgs (which I had largely gone off since planescape torment in 2001-2).

Plus it had a good amount of content, i've clocked in over 300 hours in a single run through the game, only game that can compare with that for me is monster hunter (freedom unite & portable 3rd, but MHFU is my favourite so on volume alone lets just consider that one).

I know the choice is possibly going to cause a wave of discontent, but honestly I prefer the newer FF's over the older ones (i've played them all many times) maybe its because i'm female & our brains are supposed to be wired differently & all that. On the flipside I do have a lot of background info on FF12 directly from some who worked on FF12 (& the international zodiac version with the extra content) so the game is probably a lot more potent for me than it is for most. I'm not saying everyone should love it but it IS my ultimate RPG.
