I agree, mutiplayer on a single console is much more fun in most games.

I wonder how much of Wii's success is because of Nintendo's focus on "social" gaming?

I bought the wii pretty much for social gaming. I had a 360 for a year (still do and still play it) but I could not find very many good split screen games to play with my friends. I thought it was because they wanted everyone to have xbox live (which I do, and I think is great) but it sounds like the ps3 has the same problem. the wii on the other hand almost everygame i own has split screen, so when friends come over we play that. Online multiplayer is great, but only one my friends has a 360 so split screen is the way to go.
