Sony is trying a lot more different stuff. They aren't just making bald space marine adventures #2323 Its also a lot harder to achieve 10 Millions for a new IP if you have 15 per year of them + your regular exclusives(i overstate now) You have worldwide at least 30 exclusives every year while Microsoft has like 3 - There are tons of people on the PS3 who just buy stuff from their favorite Genres. Some buy things like Heavy Rain and Twisted Metal and play that for the whole year. Some will buy Uncharted and Littlebigplanet and so on. Not every one of the 65 Million PS3 Users is buying 30 Exclusives every year. Not even I do cause i don't have the money. But what are Microsoft people doing? Ok there is the yearly Gears,Halo and Call of Duty Mappack coming > Save money for that and everyone is buying that. Just look at Forza - Forza 4 didn't even sell half of Forza 3 and was a complete failure despite the quality. GT5 sold over 10 Million Units combined with the Prologue sales. Alan Wake > No one cared for that on the 360.Sales were going up when Microsoft sold Alan Wake at Amazon and so on for 10$ 1 month after release. And no Alan Wake is coming to PC anyway too. You are right Sony made a lot of new IPs that didn't do so well but they weren't expecting them to sell 10 Million units. Hell they pumped 60 Million into Heavy Rain and sold like 2,5 Million and were happy cause that was enough for a new game aka Beyond aka a new IP. Uncharted never sold big numbers either but Naughty Dog has now 2 Teams while one is building up a new unique IP again.Except one low quality download title we didn't have anything like The Last of Us in this Gen. It won't sell 10 Millions either but it will probably the most beautiful game in this Gen and show how much the PS3 is still capable to push. And selling with Gears of War is like selling with Call of Duty or Battlefield. Everyone could do it - Those games are made for the USA and they like that stuff. Now try that with a game with an actual good story and deep characters WITHOUT tons of litres of blood and bald space marines. Sony has only ONE Franchise that is aimed at that direction and that is God of War and even that Franchise has a better Story than Gears of War(Mariaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa). Even Killzone 3 had an awesome story - But of course. There are people who think Twilight has an awesome story so probably some think Gears of War has one too. But look what happens if games aren't about bald space marines and killing stuff as brutal as possible on the 360?Alan Wake and Forza 4 have poor sales. Both would have sold at least TWICE on the PS3,especially Forza 4. Fact is big Numbers come if you aim at the taste of the community. The Sony Community has a much wider variety in taste of games - There are MANY people who like this and that and Sony is trying to make everything for everyone.Especially cause they hope some bored people from other consoles look what they have got.And then their are of course the people who want to play every genre. The Microsoft Community is nearly full of War Hungry People(mostly underage XboxLive Heroes) and Microsoft is directly aiming at them. You can see high quality exclusives from other genres don't interest them as much as a gore shooter with not story does. And this is pretty much a fact - Microsoft has it much easier to make their community happy. They love to play every year the same game over and over again.

tl:dr.
But keep in mind that the Xbox 360 has more games than the PS3. So your whole argument collapsed. Do not believe everything you read on N4G comments.
People forget that Kinect and XBLA actually make a huge difference in the real world. People on forums only count retail only releases, aimed at the core, priced $60 and are not motion based.
Games like Minecraft sell more than 2 million on the 360 alone so people in the real world actually cared about it. Kinect Sports selling 4 million, Dance Central sold 3 million. And yes games available on PC and a console matter as well with L4D selling 4 million in the 360. You can't ignore these titles when millions of people play them and spend their money for those games.
