I agree those kids are brats who need to be smacked upside the head, but how does she deserve $650,000 for this? And who's paying for this? I'm guessing she must be employed by the school district so do you really hope $650,000 of school funding that could go to teachers, text books, etc. goes to a lady who was (very unfortunately) treated badly for the period of a bus ride? Giving her 20 years of a teacher's salary really isn't the way to make things right. Punish the kids and make both them and their parents formally apologize to the lady, along with the suspensions/community service the kids recieved. 

Things are increasingly becoming a lottery state, where, you hit it big with the media, and suddenly it is like you won the lottery.  Labor in obscurity, and you don't get squat.  She got lucky with a lot of people donating.

Look at it this way, do the Jersey Shore reality TV folks deserve what they are getting.  Heck, The Situation is getting paid money NOT to wear a brand of clothing.  Say hello to the lottery society.
