Gears of War: Judgment will release in February 2013, according to one of CVG's "publishing sources", with exact North American and European release dates still to be finalised.

Rather early in the year to launch a game of this stature, isn't it? Downright suspicious, in fact. Gears of War 1 and Gears of War 2 both saw release in November, timed to capitalise on the Christmas rush. Gears of War 3 dropped in late September, avoiding Call of Duty without entirely losing its grip on the festive season. All three games justified their holiday positioning with mammoth sales.

You'd almost think there were something elsein the works for mid or late 2013, something scarier even than Call of Duty, something so very awesome, that the very thought of it might scupper Judgment's odds of turning a profit. Something.... next generationy.

Recently leaked "Xbox 720" design docs (confirmed to be copyrighted Microsoft materials, but possibly out-dated) pin the console for release in holiday 2013, which suggests that it will debut at E3 next year. Time enough for Judgment to sell a few million before the hammer comes down on current gen, then.

Epic has confirmed that the Gears prequel will be the last Gears game for Xbox 360, though probably not the last Gears game period.
