The focus of the Inquisition was on heretics primarily, not the hunting of witches. And the top worst trademark of the Inquisition was torture, not burnings. http://www.religioustolerance.org/wic_burn2.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witch_hunts_in_Early_Modern_Europe http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/15674a.htm http://www.salon.com/2005/02/01/witch_craze/
A real pro tip is to not buy into stereotypical and lazy thinking based on erroneous cliches. And for people to not confused what had happened in the past with the state of things currently. It is really pushing it to say one of the trademarks today of the Catholic Church is the burning of witches. It would be, at worst, akin to saying that being drawn to Mormonism today means you have a thing for polygamy. |
Okay, I'll admit that there's a difference between what is happening today in the Catholic Church -- Child Molesting -- with what happened in the past at least 100,000 heretics, witches, and Jews being burned alive along with the genocide of the Aztecs. But all of those things are very bad and demonstrate the moral structure of that cult quite well.
And considering that some LDS Missionaries will tell you that polygamy will be restored to their church once Jesus returns to establish his earthly kingdom in Jackson County, Missouri, I would have to say that some people are still probably drawn to that cult because they have a thing for polygamy.
