I believe our stupid amateur govt is trying to get us into this mess, or they're too scared to not start a war and swallow it.

These kind of accidents (violating smbd airspace) are happeining all the time - this's not the first time Turks are doing this - some are due to accident, some are intentional, not every one of them is going public though. Even if they did went public, it's sometimes very hard to guess what has happened actually due to lame journalism (and since journalism and lame are synonims, it's just like that every f**king timd :D), say, intercepting in international airspace could be easily transormed in violating national airspace in press release.

But if the following pic has smth to do with the reality, it's violation, and it's intentional (less than 5km from the shore).

The spokesman also said that the two countries' naval forces' commands have established contact, and Syrian naval ships along with the Turkish side are searching for the two missing pilots. Syria in collaboration with Turkish Navy are seeking for missing pilots.
