With regards to cross game chat, are people so incapable of being alone that they can't play their games without someone to talk to? I can understand wanting to play with people in the same game, e.g multiplayer but not playing with someone else playing a different game.

Well, I'm assuming you don't have a 360, or don't have friends online. Cross game chat for most people isn't about carrying on conversations while playing seperate games. You log online, and see a pack of friends on. It's annoying to send out a text message to everyone asking to play a game, or a bunch of invites and waiting to see if people join. But that's a problem for the past, or PSN users. On Xbox, I log on, and invite a handful of friends to my party. Then, we're just talking. I'm at the home screen since i just logged on, a couple friends are playing a SP game, and a friend is  wrapping up a Mass Effect 3 Match. "You guys wanna play a match?" "Sure." The peopel that don't want to drop out, those that stick in my party can join my game. Because the party is formed outside the game, 1 button will invite the entire, already formed party to the game. Live parties w/cross game chat makes it like walking into a room of friend and saying "who wants to play?". And then you and your friends can contineu to chat while they finish up their various matches/levels and join your game. It makes it like you have your friends in the room with you.
