There was no issue with Motorola and Microsoft regarding any Motorola patents prior to Google buying Motorola.

Only after Google bought Motorola did things go sour.

In fact I'm not just referring to this particular case, but also to all the other countless ones before it. And all the countless ones that will happen after this one, unless the US economy gets so horribly burnt by its own fatherland's laws to persuade politician to change them, at last.
