I'm curious if the folks who complained about the "shortage excuse" on pg 1 will give another reason for this increase or if they will admit that it was in fact a shortage problem.
@crazzyman
What sony shipped in the last 5 weeks of 2007 is in no way indicative of what they built in the last 5 weeks of 2007. All manufacturers ship extra units for the holidays, these extra units are allocated during the year for the X-mas season. In other words a small number from each week's production during the year is held over until X-mas to help meet increased demand.
Not to mention that the Wii did significantly better for the last 5 weeks than the PS3 did:
VGChartz Hardware data for Dec 9th '07 through Jan 6th '08
(last 5 weeks of the year)
| Console | Wii | PS3 |
Total | 4,127,414 | 2,347,659 |
America | 1,645,991 | 832,939 |
Japan | 917,327 | 274,328 |
Total Others | 1,564,096 | 1,240,392 |
Note that I am not pointing that out as an "omg look how much better the Wii is!!!" but simply to contradict your logic about PS3 shipments being even similar in size to Wii shipments when they clearly weren't. In short Nintendo is producing the Wii much faster than Sony is producing the PS3 according to all information publically available.
