You're completely wrong, there.
Robin Williams would be a perfect choice of celebrity to have on stage. Especially since the next Zelda handheld title should be shown off, and Robin (and his daughter) are an incredible advertising opportunity. Heck, I'm actually kind of hoping that they make a Zelda title where Zelda's appearance is based on Zelda Williams, and we see the King, whose appearance is based on Robin when he was fully bearded.
Heck, they could have him come back on stage repeatedly for various forms of humour. It could start with Miyamoto and Robin on stage together, with Robin in his Mork persona, for instance. None of you kids would get the jokes there, but people with good taste in quality TV would actually get it all.
Anyway... was there anything "new" shown? Note that I don't mean new games, just things that haven't been seen before now (like, say, a new mode in a game, or something like that).
