A) Just because something has been shipped but not sold, doesn't mean that stuff is still on the shelf. There are tons of things that could be unknown. B) Looking at the regional numbers. 200K In the US/canada actually seems pretty reasonable. GoW 3 is one of those "window" games, that you see in every store despite being 2 years old. You go in a target or a walmart, they don't have half the new game! They have GoW 3 though. This is really beleivable if this contains south american numbers as well. Japan 417,000 vs 120,000. That really depends on the initial shipment. If the initial shipment was 417,000. That's totally believable. They thought they'd be able to hype this one through, and it just didn't work. Europe/others is the only one that'd look "iffy" but I don't really know enough about Europeon stores, they seem more fractured then the US, and with so many distributors it's not as unlikely as you'd think. Espiecally for a "storefront" game. Or for that matter, what their agreements are like. For example. In the book industry, books are sold on cosignment in the US. If you can't sell a book? You can return it to the publisher within 6 months. (And they'll still count those books as shipped.) So for example, Sony could of at some point really wanted to make sure GoW3 would be in stock, offered a limited return plan. Got some returns, then resold those game, allowing them to count twice. Afterall they are using the term "Sell in". Could be a bug, or it could just make a lot more sense then you'd think based on unknown information. No way to tell really. |
Haha...theres nothing to "clarify" genius... They're shipped numbers, as they always are.
Theres a lot wrong here... I'll point some things out.
The american sales are out of the picture here. They weren't adjusted at ALL. Even after the shipped numbers came in. And you are right, there are 200k copies of GoW III sitting on the shelves just in North America.
417,000 was NOT in Japan. You are totally wrong about that. They're Japan + ASIA sales. And apparently God of War III was pretty darn big in mainland Asia.
And guess what ? The adjustments happened in Europe and "Others" where Vgchartz tracking is weakest. So its an error which caused the adjustment to be removed, that much is clear. And out of that only 30k was in "Others" and 500k in Europe.
So if these numbers we have right now are correct, then Vgchartz were right all along about God of War III sales ? Even the European numbers ? Is that what you're saying ?
There is something obviously wrong here...maybe Vgchartz are figuring out the exact amount they should adjust GoW III up...Maybe the previous upward adjustment was a little too high ? I don't know..thats for the sales staff to decide
btw, God of War III sales have wildly exceeded your expectations, even at these pretty low numbers (compared to shipped figures), haven't they ? I remember you predicting something under 3 million :P
