^Well, then beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I consider what they did with the WiiU pad for ZombiU to be something that smartglass does not render irrelevant for a long time, and that is anything but a gimmick, but the path towards ever increasing immersion. Immersion is the thing I strive for as a gamer, since I'm a pretty retro gamer at the root. Games like Metroid and Bioshock appeal to me, so does a game like Uncharted, because it sucks me in. ZombiU's footage did the same for me, and most of that, appart from the 1-life hardcore mechanic, was done thanks to what you call gimmicks, on the padlet.

I have no problem disagreeing with you starkly, since I value my opinion more than yours.

so because the wiiU controller isn't rendered automatically outdated by smartglass that means that it's not a gimmick? Let me ask you: why do you think nintendo keeps introducing such "odd" capabilities to their systems? Because it works. People eat that **** up like candy because it is a new feature and it's different, not because it enhances gaming. Dual screens, motion cameras, motion controls.. They are novel, sure. But they are gimmicks. People get tired of them and they are not condusive to a long term playstyle. In the end people always go back to the standard m&k or controller input because it provides freedom, whereas "gimmicks" are limited to what they can do which is less. Look no further than the Pro controller. The wiiU controller itself is fine. The functionality, however, still needs to evolve. And gimmick-o was his name-o.

If these things immerse you though, have fun with it.

There are a few things you don't understand, and I'll try to help.

Nintendo introduces these new ways of play because they believe these will add to the way games are played. For certain, their intent is for these to increase immersion.

Your PoV is esckewed by the fact that probably the delivery failed with Wii motion controls, for you.

You say that these new forms of play have short lives, in that people get tired of them. Then why do people still play games with guns at the arcades, games with seats with wheels, games with skiis and skateboards? Are these all gimmicks?? Yet people still visit the arcades to play them and have fun. True, a majority of hobbyists will not play these, but I know many people who will play DDR religiously. It's based on full body movement and is an arcade type experience. So, is that not a gimmick because people don't stop playing it? Do you know who actually plays arcade games and who doesn't?

You point just falls apart right there. People like those games and many will play them continuously at the arcades. If even such people stop playing them on the Wii, it's probably not because the idea is a bad one, but because it wasn't properly delivered, it wasn't a full solution. Something was missing.

So you see, you're seeing a problem but blaming the wrong culprit. That's because you're biased.

YES. That's why they are at the arcade and not at your house. Fun in sort bursts, and it backs up the fact that it's non-conducive to long term playing which is what I've been arguing, therefore it's a gimmick. Look at Tony Hawk's Shred for proof of that. It got horrible reviews, but it is near identical to a few skatboarding games that I've been at my local D&B and people love it there, since it is conducive to that atmosphere of short burst gratification (lol).

So stop chasing ghosts, this is not that difficult Ms. Sassy Pants.
