The thing about Timesplitters is it was designed as a fun FPS with some realistic elements, rather than the dominant type of FPS, if not the dominant type of game, which is a realistic FPS that you can have fun in. No publishers seem to want the former anymore, perhaps because they don't tend to give an easy way out for making a sequel like the latter type does (which basically involves a slightly tweaked story and new level design) |
Ahh, too true. I can't imagine any other FPS that would throw you in a Circus full of Snowmen with a flamethrower (I'M MELTINGGGG) or have you take down a stronghold of accountants and their supercomputer. God, I miss Timesplitters.
And I think you're exactly right. Timesplitters: Future Perfect was a hard enough sell to publishers and an even harder sell to consumers. I doubt we're ever going to see a series like it again.
